A Blockbuster Success at the Village Scarecrow Festival
We hope you had an opportunity to join in on the festivities at this year’s Village Scarecrow Festival. It was our third year of running it and it was a day filled with laughter, creativity, SUNSHINE and community spirit, and we are delighted to announce that it was an enormous success.
Lights, Camera, Scarecrows!
This year’s festival had a movie theme, and it certainly brought out the creativity and imagination of our village. We were amazed to see over 45 incredible scarecrows adorning our streets, each one a testament to the artistic talents and enthusiasm of our community members. They were from classic films to modern blockbusters and a smattering of Disney. As the judges strolled through the village it was hard not to feel a sense of pride of what we all put together.
The real magic of the day was the sense of community you could feel. The entire village came together to make this event a success, from the talented individuals who created the scarecrows to those who helped with the organisation and logistics. Our local businesses and clubs also got into the spirit organising their own events, donating raffle prizes and volunteering to help.
We want to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who participated and supported the festival in any way. From the food & drink vendors, the treasure hunt and raffle, The wildlife club tree hunt & plant sale, face painting, the events at the Church, Fire Station, Reading Room and the WI craft fair at the Queens Hall, to Dan the Penny Farthing man riding around the village dressed as a scarecrow and the Bouncy Castle. Wow!
A massive shout out goes to Manor View Stores for the amazing food they tirelessly made and supplied free of charge. They raised a lot of money too through donations, which has been donated to the Senior Citizens Christmas party, so we would like to give them a special mention.
We’d also like to congratulate the winners of this year’s scarecrow competition. The judges (Marian Rippon, David Borthwick, Ivor Appleton) had a tough job with so many fantastic entries, but the following scarecrows stood out:
1. Best Overall Scarecrow: Wizard of Oz by the Mallinson Family.
2. Best Childrens Scarecrow: The Little Mermaid by The Wood Family.
3. Best Business / Club Scarecrow: Memphis Belle by Binbrook WI
4. People’s Choice Award: Singing in the Rain by Brian McCarthy
Congratulations to our winners, and a big round of applause for all the participants.
We can’t wait to see what creativity next year’s Scarecrow Festival will bring. Mark your calendars for Saturday 7th September 2024, and start brainstorming your scarecrow ideas for the theme of MUSIC (songs & artists). Let’s make it an even bigger success and continue to celebrate the wonderful sense of community we have here in our village.
Once again, thank you all for your incredible support and participation. You made this year’s Scarecrow Festival a truly memorable event.
