Scarecrows 2021

Scarecrows 2021

The first annual Binbrook Scarecrow competition was a roaring success and that’s down to the fantastic participants in our village. The theme was Past, Present and Future.

In total 46 households, businesses and clubs entered the awards, however we ended up with 57 scarecrows scattered in the village.

The saunter around the streets, using the map made for the visitors to Binbrook,  was exceptionally well received and there have been many calls to repeat it again next year.

The judges, Anna Hall from Binbrook C of E School, Father Patrick from our Church and also Marko Humphrey from Magna Vitae had the unenviable task of walking the circuit and scoring each scarecrow on the following criteria – Idea, Presentation and WOW factor.  Each category was scored out of 5 and then all three scores from each judge added together to show the winner.

The W I N N E R was Hazel Bull of North Halls and her generational tea party. Well done Hazel, you did a great job. She won a rather larger trophy, some biscuits and an M&S voucher sponsored by the Queen’s Hall bar.

Second place was Roz & Phil Wallis at the Old Rectory and their fantastic one man and his (sheep) dog.

Third was the Hunt Family on Kirmond Road with a wonderful representation of past, present and future and Fourth was their close neighbours the Read family with the farmer and the hanger on!

The best business / group went to Binbrook Fire Station who had a fireman rescuing a cat up a tree. They also won some biscuits and an M&S voucher sponsored by the bar again.

The judges were blown away with the talent and imagination of each and every one of the scarecrows they saw on their travels.

None of it would have been possible without the straw kindly donated by Nick Brooks.  Thanks Nick, as always, you are a star!

Thank you so much for being great sports and creating the perfect stroll through our gorgeous village.

Until next year!
